Kanzi plays a piano. Which One?
March 31st, 2008My Story by Kanzi,
After my last jam session with Perter Gabriel I decided I needed a better piano than the old upright I grew up with. One of my personal trainers suggested I try a Steinway upright and went ahead and made the arrangements with the local Steinway Piano Gallery. I found the instrument quite nice. It was certainly better than my old upright. Then I asked the price. I would have fallen out of a tree.( had I been in one.) No way could we afford this piano. The cost exceeded years of grants to fund my continuing education program. No more piano lessons. I still wanted and needed a new piano. I decided to go on line and shop. With the help of my staff we found ” The Ultimate Piano Challenge.” I had never heard of the Palatino. ( I had never heard of the Steinway either.) This looked like a great option at a reasonable price. We decided I should play the Palatino. Wow!! It looked as good and sounded even better than the Steinway. I have large hands and long fingers I need an action with precise response. The Palatino action responded to my every nuance. The price? Three back flips when I heard the quote. This was my new piano! I’ve spent years learning to use numerous tools. When the Palatino guys delivered my new piano they brought along A tuning fork and a tuning hammer. Another challenge. I’m going to learn to tune my new Palatino piano myself.
See the true story of this remarkable piano playing Bonobo in the Mar.08 issue of National Geographic Magazine.
